According to the Narada Purana, at one time the sages, sages, gods and humans were all very upset by the atrocities of the demon king Jalandhar. He was very mighty and brave. Behind this was the fruit of the virtues of his wife Vrinda, who followed his virtuous religion, from which he was not defeated. The deities troubled by him went to Lord Vishnu and asked him the way to defeat him. Then Lord Shri Hari thought of a way to break Vrindas virtuous religion.

Lord Vishnu took the form of Jalandhar and touched Vrinda. Due to which Vrindas virtuous religion was dissolved and Jalandhar was killed in the war. Vrinda, who was deceived by Lord Vishnu and saddened by her husbands separation, cursed Srihari that your wife will also be abducted by deceit and you will have to bear the separation of your wife. For this you have to be born on earth. After giving this curse, Vrinda became sati. The Tulsi plant grew at that place. Sita is abducted due to a curse in Ramavatar and Shri Rams wife bears the separation.

Another legend states that Vrinda cursed Lord Vishnu to be a stone for his cruel behavior. Because of that Lord Vishnu is worshiped in Shaligram form. Lord Vishnu felt very guilty for breaking Vrindas virtuous religion. Then he blessed Vrinda that she would always be with him in the form of Tulsi. He said that whoever gets her married to Tulsi in Shaligram form on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, his wish will be fulfilled. Since then Tulsi marriage started taking place.
